Before college drop-off: one useful hour together

A one-hour college setup plan: bring the course list, term dates, and a phone; leave with a tested reminder path and a disability-services email draft.

If your student is willing to give this an hour, spend it on the parts that get harder when you are in different places. The account stays theirs. They make every choice about what goes into it and whether a supporter gets access.

Already past move-in? Use the same plan on your next call or visit. Nothing here is a deadline, and none of it becomes less useful in September.

Scholexis has each of the tools below, but it does not yet guide you through a one-hour session. Keep this page open while you move through the app together.

What to bring

The plan does not require a finished syllabus or every deadline. Course names and term dates are enough to start.

0–10 minutes: the student owns the account

Your student creates the account and stays at the keyboard. Agree on one boundary before entering anything: access belongs to them. They decide what to record, what to leave out, and whether anyone else gets a view.

10–25 minutes: give the semester its shape

Create the academic year and term, using the dates from the school’s calendar. Add the course names. Stop there for now. Turning the hour into a complete syllabus transcription defeats the point.

25–40 minutes: make the phone prove it

Open Notifications on the phone and browser where reminders should arrive. Turn notifications on and use Send a test reminder.

The test may deliver a reminder or identify a setup problem. On an iPhone or iPad, Scholexis must be added to the Home Screen before it can receive notifications. The goal is to know what works on that phone before the two of you leave the room.

40–50 minutes: decide what a supporter can see

Open Manage access. Doing nothing is a valid choice. If your student wants to share planning items, they choose View only or Edit, and can set an expiration date. The supporter needs a separate Scholexis account.

Accommodations, energy check-ins, grades, reflections, and profile details stay outside that grant. The student can change or revoke access later. The exact steps are in How to invite a supporter.

50–60 minutes: finish with the email

Open Profile, then Accommodations. Your student checks the items that describe their current situation and chooses the statement that fits their history. Draft my registration email builds an editable draft from those choices.

Read it together, change anything that does not sound like them, and copy it into an email to the college’s disability services office. Scholexis does not send it for them, and the draft does not go to an AI model.

Stop with that draft open in their email. The semester has a shape, the reminder path has a real test result, the access boundary is decided, and the first message no longer begins with a blank page.
